Day 2 to 6 have gone really well. The 1st 48 hours are most crucial to keep the foot elevated. This reduces the risk of excessive inflammation and also helps to protect again a thrombosis (clot). Through this first week I've been keeping my foot elevated at least to the hip and sometimes with the wedge or a cushion to get a little higher.
I'm been keeping myself busy with some interesting activities, including cutting hair, arranging some flowers, writing this blog
Here's a video of my progress over the past 6 days. Bottom line is my pain relief has leveled off to just one antiinflammatory that its important I take post surgery. More on progress on the pain relief in the next post.
Here's a couple of items I've found really useful to help me in this first week...
Inflatable wedge leg elevation pillow - useful to use a soft pillow to avoid calf compression
Waterproof leg cover (to knee) - I've not been in the shower, but wearing this while sitting in the bath with my foot over the side to get a light shower has been really good to eliminate the risk of wetting the dressing. Wet = infection risk.
