Wow, I didn't expect it to be another 40+ weeks since my last post until the next. So much has happened. The biggest factor to effect my posting was our son was born in January, 3 wks ish early and never had time since. He actually was born the day I was due to do my 1st jog back. 1 day later I did 6x60s jog while Katie walked and pushed the pushchair. All fine. In summary, you can see my progress on strava. Basically from starting i managed at 4wks (30mpw), 8 wks (50mpw), 12 wks (up to 75mpw). Did a 5km at 14wks but some sessions in weeks 10-13wks to really start to test everything. TBH all was fine, Achilles never gave any issues importantly.
In the recent 3-4 months I've started ramping up the training to some longer runs between (22-30 m). Attempted the Glen Ogle 33 in November, but was ill in the week before and caught up with me. But had been pleased at the consistency in training given surgery 1 year ago. Ramping up consistent weeks of 65-75m with long long runs, just a shame I got ill. In that time I noticed some stiffness in the large toe joint but I do have excellent flexibility. I used ice on occasion but theorised this was scar tissue converting back. As you can see from the pictures, it looks great now (all images taken 53 wks post surgery). The easy running/rest from the illness has helped settle things down. Time will tell how the rheumatoid arthritis and surgery ultimately pan out. Had an ultrasound scan recently and there was some rheumatic damage but its a confusing picture with the surgery.
Not really planning any other posts as all seems well. Just didn't want to do a blog and not finish it off. Too many bad stories out there, but not in this case :)
