Been great to finally get on the bike and start doing a little more serious exercise, other than lots of walking. I've now got a 2-way Smart wheel-on turbo trainer (Zycle ZPRO SMART turbo trainer) which I connect up to Zwift and a Bluetooth heart rate monitor. Have to say I'm really impressed with this, its been easy to progress from 20 mins of cycling up to an hour while getting the heart rate up. There is loads more data than you get with running and so its easy to show progress. My bike is 12 years old and due a service so as you'll see from the video it isn't the finest but its getting the legs turning, the joints moving and starting to load some stress on the body. I plan to get a service, replace the pedals for more mountain biking cages, plus I can only pump the tyres up to 50 psi so I need a new pump!
Also been working hard on some fairly standard balance strengthening/mobility for my left ankle and to the benefit of my surgery foot. Standing on my toes in a movement phase and putting strain through the ankle still gives a twinge. Factoring in some massage has helped which I do every couple of days and the inflammation in the big toe does tend to vary.
Plan is to try a jog 10 weeks post surgery as agreed at the last check up, provided I've loaded more on the exercises, cycling and general walking. Here is the latest video.
